Prepare Your Pitch Peer Review Event
June 2019

EVENT IS FULL - PLEASE USE THE BUTTON BELOW TO BE ADDED TO WAIT LIST

 Registration Dates: April 26 - May 24

or until all seats are filled
Event Date: June 3-8

This peer review event is designed to provide participants with feedback from fellow writers regarding their pitch.  Is your pitch clear? Is it engaging? Is it likely to make an agent want to request the manuscript for her review and possible representation?

Participants will be placed in groups by subgenre and will be expected to provide feedback on the pitches of those in your group.  In return, you’ll get feedback on your pitch from others. Comments on any pitch throughout the forum is encouraged as well.

Please note:  Those who participate in this event (and did not already participate in the February, 2019, Agent Pitch Event) will be given priority slots in the July, 2019, Agent Pitch Event. The reason this participation is so strongly encouraged is that those members who have participated in this event in the past have received significantly more agent requests during the corresponding Agent Pitch Event.  (Please see the page for the Agent Pitch Event for more details on how slots for that event will be assigned).

This event is free for all WFWA members, however you will be expected to provide feedback to other members, so please only sign up if you have ample time to participate. We expect you to cancel at least five days in advance if you are unable to join.

New this time:  A live Q&A on Thursday, June 6 (8 PM EST) with those familiar with the pitching process. Member questions will be answered by the following panelists:

  • MM (Peggy) Finck, owner of Query Quill
  • Newly-Agented Member Anisha Bhatia, who gained her agent via the regular query process
  • Newly-Agented Member Jennifer Springsteen, who gained her agent via the February WFWA Agent Pitch Event
  • Abigail K. Perry,  Editorial Intern at P.S. Literary

Please this link for examples of pitches in previous WFWA pitch events that received multiple agent requests.

All pitches must be for a WOMEN'S FICTION manuscript. Posts of pitches from genres other than women's fiction will be removed.

In keeping with WFWA’s definition of women’s fiction, all pitches should include the protagonist’s emotional journey.  Since this event is a lead-up to the July Agent Pitch Event, members are strongly encouraged to show their protagonist's emotional journey in the pitch that they "workshop" in this June event.  Pitch Event volunteers approve all pitches for the July event and pitches that don't show an emotional journey will have to be rewritten.  Don't let that be you!  Include your protagonist's emotional journey right from the start.

Protagonists for manuscripts in both the June and July event must be nineteen-years-old or older, as agents generally consider manuscripts with younger protagonists to be Young Adult.  If you believe you should be granted an exception to this rule for your eighteen-and-under protagonist, please email [email protected] for instructions on how to apply for an exception.

Important note: Completion of this workshop does not automatically mean you are registered for the July Agent Pitch Event.  You must register for that event separately. There is a one day registration scheduled for that event on June 10, 2019.
