ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:
Writing a synopsis is a tight-rope walk. Too many details and it's overly long and hard to follow, while too few and your characters and plot can seem wooden. The key to striking that balance is to include the right details to do your story justice.
Join us for this dynamic workshop to kick off Sizzling Synopsis Week, USA Today bestselling novelist and Writer's Digest Editor-at-Large Jessica Strawser will cover the dos and don'ts of writing a successful synopsis. Having published 7 popular book club novels and consulted on submission materials for hundreds of writers, she knows how to check the boxes agents and editors are looking for. In this interactive presentation, she'll put a friendly face to all those intimidating basics, and help you avoid the most common mistakes writers make.
Please note: You do not have to participate in Sizzling Synopsis to take this workshop. This is a great opportunity for anyone wanting to learn more about writing a synopsis or improving their own!
FEEDBACK OPPORTUNITY: CALL FOR SUBMISSION FOR REGISTRANTS
Exclusive to our WFWA group, this session will draw on real examples of effective synopsis approaches and how to strengthen a synopsis that is not quite submission-ready yet. Registrants who have a one-page draft of their own synopsis ready are invited to share it with the instructor in advance. A few selected participants will get real-time feedback from the instructor during this interactive session. Your name will not be used; materials will be discussed anonymously for illustrative purposes during this workshop only.
This is your chance to help your fellow attendees learn, as well as to get a professional perspective on your draft. By submitting, you grant permission for your work to be quoted/critiqued in this session only, and you understand that not all submissions will be discussed during the workshop.
Interested in Participating? Once you have registered, you will receive a link to submit your 800-word synopsis by April 7, 2025.
